I am a keen and dedicated bagpiper and researcher. I started piping when I was 11 years old. My early piping development was a result not only of being taught by experienced local pipers in Hong Kong but also of receiving piping lessons from renowned pipers such as Douglas Murray, Stuart Liddell MBE, and Willie McCallum. Over the past several years, I have been competing in different solo piping and band competitions in the United Kingdom and won some solo prizes in Inveraray, Roseneath Peninsula, Cowal, and Blair Atholl Highland Games.
For band experience, I was a member of the Royal Air Force Halton Pipe Band, Denny and Dunipace Pipe Band, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Pipes and Drums, and the first member of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland from the Far East.
I hold a Fellowship Diploma of the London College of Music in Scottish Traditional Music and Level 8 Certification in Scottish Piping awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. I am also an approved assessor for the Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board and I can conduct Scottish Qualifications Authority or Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board accredited examinations in Scottish Bagpiping at all levels.
Having obtained a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, I decided to combine my academic pursuits with my interest in piping by doing a PhD to study the piping culture in former British colonies in the Far East, with a particular focus on Hong Kong and British Malaya. I have already published research in this area and also teach courses related to Scottish piping culture. My website features some of my publications, and you can also follow my ongoing research on Scottish piping in the Far East on my blog.
As a professional bagpiper, I am available to perform at various events. Whether it is a wedding, corporate event, or private party, I am delighted to provide a unique and authentic Scottish touch to your special occasion. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you are looking for a skilled bagpiper to add a special touch to your event.
