Bagpiper · Researcher
I am a professional bagpiper and researcher specialising in the history, culture, and contemporary practice of Scottish bagpiping in Hong Kong and the Far East. My work brings together performance, scholarship, and community engagement, exploring how piping traditions have been shaped by colonial encounters, military heritage, and evolving cultural identities across former British territories.
As a performer, I have appeared in solo competitions, formal ceremonies, and ensemble performances, drawing from a musical lineage shaped by leading Scottish pipers and years of international experience. As a researcher, my academic work draws on archival study, ethnography, and cultural analysis to understand how music functions in society historically and in the present.
In addition to performance and research, I offer private tuition and workshops, can facilitate accredited examinations (including Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework and London College of Music pathways where applicable), and am available to adjudicate competitions and performance events.
This website brings together my performances, research projects, publications, interviews, recordings, and updates on upcoming events. Whether you are interested in the academic study of music, the sound of the Great Highland bagpipe, or the cultural history of Hong Kong, I hope you will find something meaningful here, and I welcome enquiries of all kinds.
